OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

Operational efficiency
  • Small, collaborative changes to improve efficiency can reduce emissions by about 10%.
  • From optimized flight planning, the use of real-time weather and traffic information, and leveraging the power of data analytics, we support our customers through nearly every phase of flight.
  • Boeing has multiple digital solutions available today and even more that are in development that can help customers improve their fuel and flight efficiency, including:

Jeppesen FliteDeck Advisor

Analyzes airplane-specific performance metrics for all Boeing aircraft, including changes over time with aircraft age and maintenance action. The tool enables flight crews to make small, real-time adjustments to optimize fuel use and minimize the carbon footprint of each flight. During a trial on its 787 Dreamliners, Virgin Atlantic found that FliteDeck Advisor delivered cruise fuel savings of 1.7%, saving approximately 1,900 kilograms of carbon dioxide per flight.

Emissions Reporter

An easy-to-use CO2 emissions reporting tool that provides automatic report preparation and auditing support to ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements and other emissions programs. Accurately measuring and understanding the current level of emissions is a first step that operators can take before determining strategies for reduction.

Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro

Boeing has eliminated 5 billion sheets of paper charts from the cockpit by digitally-enabling over 24 million flights each year. For some of the larger operators, this equates to eliminating 32 tons of paper; resulting in savings of more than 450,000 gallons of fuel and a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 4,352 metric tons.

Jeppesen RouteSync

A data distribution framework that automatically synchronizes, monitors and records flight route data between an airline’s operation center and the aircraft’s flight management computer, saving pilots five to 10 minutes per flight. Using this solution, pilots become aware of the best routes to reduce fuel consumption based on wind and temperature.
